Data Protection

Information on the Collection of Personal Data

The operators of these pages take the protection of your personal data very seriously. Personal data are all data that can be personally related to you, e.g., name, address, email addresses, and user behavior (information that refers to an identifiable natural person (Art. 4 No. 1 of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)). Our data protection officer can be reached at datenschutzbeauftragter@kit.edu or by mail with the addition "The Data Protection Officer". When you contact us by email or through a contact form, the data you provide (your email address, possibly your name and phone number) will be stored by us to answer your questions. We delete the data arising in this context after the storage is no longer necessary, or limit the processing if there are statutory retention obligations. Please note that data transmission over the Internet (e.g., communication by email) can have security gaps. Complete protection of data against access by third parties is not possible.

Collection of Personal Data

When using the website purely for informational purposes, i.e., if you do not register or otherwise transmit information to us, we only collect the personal data that your browser transmits to our server according to your settings (Server Log Files). To view our website, we collect the data that is technically necessary for this purpose and to ensure stability and security in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 sentence 1 lit. f GDPR:

This data cannot be assigned to specific persons. We do not merge this data with other data sources. We reserve the right to check this data retrospectively if we become aware of concrete indications of illegal use.

Contact/Registration Form

If you send us inquiries via form, e.g., to receive press information or our newsletter, the information from the form, including the contact details you provided there, will be stored by us for the purpose of processing the request and in case of follow-up questions. We do not pass on this data without your consent. We use the so-called double opt-in procedure for registration, i.e., your registration is only completed when you have previously confirmed your registration via a confirmation email sent to you for this purpose by clicking on the link contained therein. If your confirmation does not occur within 48 hours, your registration will automatically be deleted from our database.

SSL Encryption

This site uses SSL encryption for security reasons and to protect the transmission of confidential content, such as the inquiries you send to us as the site operator. You can recognize an encrypted connection by the fact that the address line of the browser changes from "http://" to "https://" and by the lock symbol in your browser line. When SSL encryption is activated, the data you transmit to us cannot usually be read by third parties.

Cookies

In addition to the data previously mentioned, cookies are stored on your computer when you use our website. Cookies are small text files that are stored on your computer by your browser and provide us (the server of our website) with certain information. Cookies cannot execute programs or transmit viruses to your computer. They serve to make the Internet offer more user-friendly and effective, especially faster.
